In the Pagan traditions, Samhain (Halloween) is a time dedicated to the Wise Old Woman, also known as the Crone. Some consider it one of the most "feminine" time as the year, where all our learning and natural insight and intuition come together to help us understand the lessons of the year (for some traditions this is also New Year). If you are a beautiful woman in the mature phase of life, you may wish to use the Halloween/Samhain night to meditate on how wiser you are know, the freedom of this stage brings, from not having to worry about procreation to really not caring for petite things and wearing purple if you want to.
One simple ceremony you could do is the following:
Take out some pictures of yourself, at different ages.
Have some paper and pencil handy, a golden or white candle, a glass of wine, mead or champagne, a nice oil or bubble bath, a beautiful dress or outfit, two fire proof containers, flowers, a comfortable cushion. Optional: some friends who would like witness this ceremony; a chair and a table.
Put the photos on a clean floor (in chronological order ) in the shape of circle, big enough that you can walk around it and sit with ease at the centre. Put the cushion, flowers, fire-proof containers, drink, paper, pen, matches and the candle (on a fire-proof surface) at the centre. If sitting on the cushion is difficult, put a small table and chair at the centre of the circle and place the candle, flowers, fire proof containers, matches and drink on the table.
Now take a long, luxurious bath. Dress up, and beautify yourself as if you were going to a
n important date. Now slowly, walk to the circle. Stand (from the outside) in front of the picture that depicts you at the youngest age. Breathe in deeply and try to connect to that person in the picture; what it felt to be her, at that age, the good things and the challenges. When you are ready, move to the next picture and repeat the process. Continue until you are a the last and most recent picture of yourself. Now enter the circle.
Light the candle.Take time to think and decide about the things that you are ready to let go in this moment in time, including an expression of gratitude for the lessons received. On another piece of paper, write the things you are ready to embrace and receive in this stage of your existence. Using the candle, burn the first paper, saying some sort of farewell words or prayer. Then burn the second paper, saying words of welcoming. Make sure that both paper burn completely. When they have, stand up, take the drink, and give a toast to your Wise Woman, expressing your intention to live fully this aspect of yourself, in a genuine, passionate and beautiful way. If friends are witnessing the ceremony, have them repeat the toast and drink with you.
You may wish to finish the ceremony right now, or just sit and enjoy the drink, thinking or visualising about the way you want to be as Wise Woman. When you are ready, blow out the candle, pick the pictures (from the youngest to the older versions of yourself) and put the flowers in your bedroom or living room. You may choose to celebrate with friends, go out for a nice dinner or just cuddle up and enjoy the rest of your evening.
