Precessional cycle

The Maya say the present Great Cycle began on August 13, 3114 B.C. It will end and begin again on December 21, 2012. Great Cycle changes cause tremendous upheaval and change in the world...but it's all for our greater good.
Never before in recorded history has so much change happened in so little time as we have experienced in the last 100 plus years. Unprecedented technology growth, population expansion, and environmental degradation have been in a parabolic curve upwards after two million years of very slow change. It all had to happen to show us what we don't want anymore.
These massive changes are all part of the Universal plan to raise the spiritual consciousness of the earth by 2012 and beyond. If what the Maya and astrologers say is true, all the massive change we've been experiencing is not because of our "superior" inventiveness in relationship to our ancestors. It was divinely inspired to prepare us for the earths spiritual unfolding around 2012.
"...the sun moving into an alignment with the equator of the Milky Way, the winter solstice of 2012 marks a point within the zone of a shift that actually began years ago...the progression of the sun across the zone of the Milky Way's equator covers a corresponding zone of time that began in 1980 and ends in 2016...we're already well into the alignment that the Maya predicted more than 2,000 years ago." Fractal Time, Gregg Braden
What is a Great Cycle?
"This period of time is the so-called Maya "Great Cycle" of the Long Count and equals 5,125.36 years. The Maya conceived of the Great Cycle as one World Age, one growth cycle, at the end of which humanity reaches the next stage in its spiritual development. As the life of an individual goes through distinct stages, so too the collective life wave of humanity grows through several distinct phases. These “phases” are the five World Ages, or “Suns”, spoken of in Mesoamerican mythology. Furthermore, thirteen baktuns reflect the thirteen numbers of the Tzolkin (another Mayan calendar), which...represent the new-to-full process of the moon. As such, the seed-to-flower cycle operative on the level of human civilization...Thus, according to the Maya calendar science, the Great Cycle times our collective unfolding as a species, as well as the cycles of culture.” Maya Cosmogensis 2012, John Major Jenkins
A Grand Cycle of 25,630 years equals five Great Cycles or World Ages. This is also the exact amount of time it takes for the world to travel one complete processional cycle according to scientist today. It’s the same time it takes for us to circle from one side of the Milky Way to the other. Hmmmm, do you think maybe the Maya know more than we give them credit?
The continuous cycle of birth-death-rebirth are popular motifs on Classic Mayan buildings and stelae. Many of their ceremonial rituals were based on these natural recurring cycles marking their beginning, end and starting up again. The Maya felt that these cycle re-occurrences had great power and influenced events on the earth. Their “days” were not really days but Lords who had a specific “character” to them which influenced the days that landed on a specific Lord. Coe (1992),
Kukulcan Pyramid
Miller and Taube (1993) Wikipedia.
These Lords or characters evolved over hundreds of years of observing and documenting the cosmos and the effects of planet and constellation positions. Much like astrological signs today, the planets and constellations have certain tendencies and characteristics associated with them. These 20 lords with their interconnecting numbers make up the Tzolkin calendar.
The Mayan king/shamans with the help of hallucinogens were able to travel far into the past as well as the future to gain divine insights, which they brought back to earth.
It wasn’t just the Maya that were experiencing massive growth at the beginning of the present Great Cycle. The rest of the world was going through major changes as well around 3100 BC. The parallels between the Maya to the Egyptians, the Hopis and the Eastern Indian yugas will surprise you.
What do Great Cycles and natural cycles mean to us today?
The Maya believed that what happened above in the cosmos, happened below on the earth. As above...so below. Each planet, galaxy, constellation, etc. had a specific way they affected the whole. Their alignment or conjunction with each other and our sun determined possible outcomes on earth whether challenging or fruitful.
By watching these cycles and days they were able to determine the future and understand past events. It’s these alignments and happenings in the cosmos that spurred all the excitement about December 21, 2012, and the Great Cycle.
“The Mayan book, Books of Chilam Balam contained a series of prophecies, based on katuns. One actually predicted the Spanish invasion and conquest of the Yucatan.” Jaguar Wisdom, Kenneth Johnson
Conclusion:
December 21, 2012 reflects the end of a Great Cycle of 13 baktuns or about 5,126 years. This event signifies the rebirth of the world to a higher level of consciousness, according to the Maya. We will be the closest possible during a 25,630 year cycle to the cosmic womb...the galactic center. We will also be crossing over to the other side of the Milky Way, which the Maya considered a time of huge transition in consciousness.
The Great Cycles will continue whether we believe them or not. The end of this Great Cycle is about letting go of the present Age. It's about embracing the values of the next Great Age of "love, brotherhood, unity and integrity." This next Great Age brings us back to natural time again. It should also bring back awareness of our oneness to all things.
This Great Cycle change is not about battening down the hatches and going underground. It's about opening up and going deep inside...reconnecting with our True Selves. The closer each one of us can get to eliminating the negativity our soul's have accumulated over lifetimes, the smoother the transition to the next Great Cycle. The degree of pain we each suffer will be directly proportional to how much we choose to hold onto what doesn't work in our lives anymore. The key is forgiveness.
